Large Eddy Simulation of Flow over Periodic Hills (Re=10595, WALE)

The flow over periodic hills is a classic test case for turbulence models. The flow is cycling in a periodic domain, thereby no turbulent inlet condition need to be built. After the separation on the leeward side of the hill, a shear layer is formed which reattaches to the floor. This behavior is strongly affected by the turbulence model. The video covers two throughflow-times at bulk velocity. Simulation details: OpenFOAM v1812, 2nd order central in space, 2nd order backward in time, WALE turbulence model, 11.7M cells structured mesh (396x148x200)
